This is about life in my gardens. One is an acre on a hillside in Laguna Beach, California and the other is an acre in San Juan Capistrano, California.

Pretty Pentas
Pentas is one of those plants that just grows and blooms in the garden practically year round here without much fanfare. It is easy to take it for granted because it rarely has any problems and only requires a severe cut-back about once a year in late winter. With regular dead-heading it blooms and blooms and is a very pretty mid-size perennial.

I love Pentas for their pretty blooms & butterfly attracting qualities. They are an annual in my zone 7b garden. Lucky you to have them year round.
Wish they lasted all year for us here in N Tx. Great picture.
I first saw Pentas at Longwood Gardens (PA) and I knew immediately they were a plant I wanted to try in my garden. Unfortunately, they haven't been easy care for me so I'm definitely envious of yours. I still buy a couple every spring and plant them in containers (had two red pentas in that container I over-fertilized earlier in the summer) but I'm lucky if they do much. I wonder if they thrive on neglect, poor soils, etc?
I think pentas will do fine in poor soil, it is that user-friendly!
These are pretty, glad I am finally seeing what they look like growing. I see them listed in seed catalogs with a description, but no photo.
I fell in love with pentas when I discovered that they bring hummingbirds to the garden, which I've never seen before.
