This is about life in my gardens. One is an acre on a hillside in Laguna Beach, California and the other is an acre in San Juan Capistrano, California.

Frequent Flyer in the Fall
Technically it is still summer, but today it feels a lot like fall. Although there are many wonderful garden flowers that make their appearance in the garden at this time of year, bearded iris are not typically one that comes to mind. 'Frequent Flyer' is one of the exceptions to that rule. There have been a number of months between blooms, but I have two clumps at either end of the property in San Juan Capistrano and both are blooming, much to my delight!
I love reblooming Iris and this one looks like a keeper.
ReplyDeleteThat iris is gorgeous Sheila. I've read about fall blooming iris but never had any. I love them in the spring so what a treat to look forward to them at the end of summer too.
ReplyDeleteoops, maybe I misread your post?? Are they not normally blooming at this time of year??
ReplyDeleteKathleen,
ReplyDeleteReblooming iris are supposed to bloom repeatedly throughout the warm months as opposed to just in the spring. This particular one bloomed very nicely in the spring and then was rather dormant throughout the summer, so the fall bloom is a pleasant surprise!
Okay, I get it now! Thanks for the explanation. I only have spring blooming iris and got a little confused. How nice that some rebloom. I may have to check into that. Thanks again Sheila.
