Blooming Violets

Tucked into a shady corner in Laguna is this rotted tree stump that is home to some violets that are blooming away right now. A delightful sight in an garden that is rather bare and dormant this time of year.

  1. They are so delightful-and so invasive too. But sometimes you have to overlook that. I made the mistake of actually purchasing a violet at a master gardener plant sale 8 years ago. Can you tell I am still mad? Ha! But at a local neighborhood they let them grow amongst the grass and what a sight it is to behold to see the white and purple ones everywhere. They are sweet. Spring must be near at your place.

  2. Tina, I have always heard they are invasive, but they don't seem to be in our area, at least not in my garden. It may be too dry for them to spread aggressively.

  4. The natural planter looks great. It highlights the pretty violet flowers and round, glossy leaves.

  6. Lovely! Violets are so sweet. I just learned that they also have more Vitamin A than any other plant!

  7. Now that is a gorgeous picture. I have a tree stump in our backyard with two bird houses attached.

We only planted flowers around the base of the trunk but never thought about growing something on the truck it's self.

You can bet I will take that idea right out into my own backyard, thanks
