That is a very pretty plant, I've never seen that one before! How lucky to have the gardens where you do. Both of those areas are beautiful. I remember going to the Mission in San Juan Capistrano when I was a kid.
I don't normally go for the mallow family as they're a bit too baby pink for me. But that wine coloured bloom is just gorgeous.
