Make Mine Munstead
I don't think there is any lavender hybrid that I don't grow in my gardens. I love them all and they love our climate as long as they have good drainage. This is 'Munstead', a smaller variety that is just charming. If you look closely you will see a number of bees in this picture. They seem to love it as much as I do!
Your lavender is so gorgeous! I think rosemary and lavender both need good drainage, I have to relocate mine to keep it alive.
ReplyDeleteI was admiring a group of Munsteads this afternoon!
ReplyDeleteSheila, that is a great shot. Just beautiful. I have two lavenders, and I think they are both Provence Lavender. They are on my hillside garden w/o much watering. I planted them last spring and they did not bloom. They looked near dead until about 3 weeks ago. Then a few blooms are slowly popping up. I am so happy it came back. We have tough winters here in Indiana. I love them so much. I find I use catmint in much the same way as lavander. Same green/gray coloring and soft purple blooms, but much heartier here. I will watch the two and if they take off I will get more. I will have to try Munstead, it looks like the blooms are bigger too.
ReplyDeleteI have tried repeatedly to grow lavender in my yard but have so far been unsuccessful. Yours is lovely!
ReplyDeleteHad it not been for garden blogging, I may not have fallen so in love with lavendar! I planted 3 lavendar plants this spring, for the first time, and just bought 4 more yesterday! Several are Munstead. I'm not sure how well they're going to do...so I have planted them in various locations to see what they like best of all the 'climates'. Even if I just get to enjoy some of them for a season, it will be worth it to me. I will always have lavendar, even if it has to be an annual for me;-)
ReplyDeleteI love your Lavender 'Munstead', it's a gorgeous variety. I've added the cultivar 'Hidcote' to my garden this summer & hope it survives our wet winter this year.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had much luck with lavender, but I have a tiny little Munstead out there, hoping for better luck this time! Yours are lovely, and I hope to eventually say the same about mine.
