This is about life in my gardens. One is an acre on a hillside in Laguna Beach, California and the other is an acre in San Juan Capistrano, California.

Bee Compulsion
Every time I am in the garden there is this one particular bee that is combing through the cerinthe plant. Of course I am not sure that it is the exact same bee, but it is the only place I ever see it and it is the only bee that looks like this that I ever see, so my guess it is the same one. He obviously loves this plant with a passion that is only seen in nature. I am not sure what kind of bee this is, we have lots of different kinds in the garden, but I always know where to find him!
They can be so annoying. I have a couple who love a particular bush. I trimed that bush 2 days ago and they are gone for now. I know that we need them to pollinate but when they won't leave you alone it is tempting to smash them. But I haven't.
ReplyDeleteThis bee has very interesting coloring. I can see why he loves the flowers....they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHe looks so cute, like a cartoon bee, or a funky homemade bee suit. I'd name him.
ReplyDeleteI love your "pet" bee. We are reminded where the saying "busy as a bee" comes from.
ReplyDeleteI love bees. This one has interesting fur on him. Its like he missed a couple of stripes. Its a big compliment to find them in your garden. I have a chunky bumble bee who lives in a hole in our basement wall. He is clumsy and boinked me on the head once when flying through my veggie patch. They are fascinating. Thank you for sharing the photo!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photograph! I think this is a'Bombus californicus.' We don't have this beautiful coloration in the East. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunner he is - I love bees and would enjoy having this busy little one in the garden!
