Swaying Scabiosa

There are a few perennials that I use a lot of because they are just great performers and scabiosa is one of those plants. It is just starting to bloom and it will stay in bloom throughout the summer. It has no problems with bugs or disease and the thing I really love about it is that it holds its flowers on tall slim stems that sway gracefully in the slightest breeze. Almost all of mine are lavender although I do have a white one. There is a beautiful deep purple variety that I have put in on a couple occasions but it does not seem to come back the following year so I am just happy with the easy going, prolific lavender ones!

  1. Your lavender Scabiosa is just beautiful. I had some pink ones many years ago and they just laid on the ground and after a few years died out. Yours are so tall and pretty. Maybe it was too shady where I had my poor plants :-)

  2. I also like this plant for all the same reasons.

  3. I love scabiosa too, although it doesn't spread for me like it obviously does for you. What does better for me, actually, are its relatives, the knautia; they spread politely and come in some rich colours.

  4. Sheila - scabiosa has a soft spot in my heart. It was one of the first plants I received as a gift - that started my journey into gardening. Your post & pictures are inspiration to put this at the top of my 'wishlist' for this year!!

  5. Hello Sheila,
Thank you for visiting my blog. I am in fact just about to plant 6 scabious in my attempt to get my gravel garden going - I have great hopes for them! Your garden and your approach to gardening are very much in tune with my own and whilst your climate is a little milder than here in winter I will follow your blog and try to learn more. Happy Springtime.
