Mums In July
The gardening books say to stop pinching back chrysanthemums this month to allow flowers to form for fall bloom. Too late! My mums can't wait to appear and are happy to mingle with the summer flowers, like the osteospermum. If I were ruthless I would cut them all back one more time, but I just can't do that right now!
They do look grand in your pics...I tend be ruthless as I plan on them for Fall color.
ReplyDeleteMine are blooming here in NC too. So if they were cut back now, they wouldn't bloom again in fall, right?
ReplyDeleteI would find it difficult to cut off those lovely blooms.
ReplyDeleteYes, how could you? They are beautiful! What a lovely color!
ReplyDeleteMine are beginning to go too. Don't cut them back, though. They look great right now next to the Phormium! Besides, I bet with some deadheading and a little dose of fish emulsion, you could get some rebloom for fall.
ReplyDeleteI let a large pot of mums go last year and they bloomed from July until frost - I just deadheaded as needed. But this year I have many plants in the ground and I pinched them all back around the first of July. I'm hoping for lots of fall blooms!
ReplyDeleteYour mums are lovely, I don't have any now, but when I did I had a hard time pinching as well.
