Like a special package that you wait and wait for, the iris blooms have arrived.
Although some of them have been blooming all year, the really fabulous blooms only come for a few weeks in the spring.
They are a natural draw to walk through the gardens a few times a day to see what is new.
The bloom time is short compared to many other perennials, but in my opinion, worth the wait!
I love iris too, but have trouble using them well in my garden borders. How do you place them to look appropriate? At present, I have my collection in a raised bed in the cottage garden, which is glorious for a month and blah the rest of the year.
ReplyDeleteNancy, my grandmother had a bed of iris that scared me! When not in bloom it looked like a bed of sharp swords, so I know what you mean! I always mix them in with other plants and I actually like the contrasting texture color of the foliage next to softer shapes such as lavender and geraniums. I will try to capture some pictures showing them from afar in the beds.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, that dark purple in the last photo is amazing! Beautiful plant - I need more!!!
ReplyDeleteThe iris in your garden are gorgeous, as are your roses. Good things come to those who wait!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little bit in love with that orange Iris. Such a great contrast for purples and blues in the garden.
ReplyDeleteIrises are my favourite flowers and yours look beautiful! I can't wait for mine to flower in Spring (still a bit of a wait for us here in South Africa :)
