This is about life in my gardens. One is an acre on a hillside in Laguna Beach, California and the other is an acre in San Juan Capistrano, California.

Stuffed Beds
This is the backside of 'Rabbit Island' in the backyard in SJC. The original bed was carved out of the lawn the first year we moved in and last fall we enlarged it so it could be seen from the dining room. This shot shows cat mint, verbena, purple status, pink carpet roses, and gaura with a few roses and licorice plant in the background. I am very happy with the way this bed has filled in and it has almost no exposed dirt which means no weeds!

It looks great! I love filling it all in too and not having any weeds!!!(-: Flowers look so much nicer then weeds(-:
Now that is my kind of garden. I am still working on getting mine to look like that.
I love how full it is. My Mom always says she likes to see the dirt around the plants. To me that's valuable planting space and like you said a place for weeds!
You stuffed them well, Sheila! I am not there yet... I love the colors!
I love it too. I try to fill in as much as possible. Is the licorice plant you refer to 'agastache' Giant Hyssop? I love that so much...I have several of them in the front and back of the house. I can't wait til they start blooming;-)
Jan, no, the licorice plant in the picture is one I use quite often in my gardens, helichrysum petiolare. Sorry I didn't specify it, I wasn't aware of other 'licorice' plants!
I love it. SO pretty. I love gardens, especially flower gardens, when they are full and bursting!
