Beautiful Bugs

The end of summer seems to bring about a flux of colorful bugs and butterflies, such as this brilliant orange dragonfly that landed on an obelisk in the cutting garden in San Juan. He was kind enough to stick around while I ran inside and all the way upstairs and back with my camera.

It's a great shot. How fortunate that it posed for so long. I often have trouble getting the wildlife photo when I actually have the camera out with me.
The other day I was out watering the garden by hand with a hose, when a chickadee came down to play in the spray. There was no one home to call to bring the camera. It kept flying in and out of the edges of the spray, and was thoroughly enjoying itself. That section of the garden got water logged, since I was reluctant to turn the hose off and interrupt the chickadee waterpark fun.

Northern Shade - sometimes I think that by chasing every beautiful scene, trying to capture it in a photo we loose the magic of the moment that we should be experiencing instead of trying to 'work it' with a camera. It sounds like your encounter with the chickadee is something you will have to share verbally and that is not so bad!

"we lose the magic of the moment"

Couldn't agree more. These days I often leave my camera at home on purpose, so I can concentrate on the present rather than store the past for the future.
