Amber Carpet Rose

There are few roses easier to grow than the 'Carpet Rose' series. They aren't really groundcovers as the name would imply, just small shrubs with lots of blooms and few diseases. I grow white ones and a soft pink one called "Apple Blossom". This is a new introduction this year named "Amber" and when I saw it the first time at the nursery it had burgundy foliage with these peach color blooms. I thought it was very unique and bought three for a new flower bed I was putting in at the time. A couple weeks later I was describing it to a friend and when I went to show it to her the burgundy foliage had turned completely green. It must have been in the shade or cold or some different climate to change color so dramatically. Oh well, it is still a pretty plant.

Sheila, lots of roses have new growth which is burgundy but changes green as it grows. I have two red carpet roses and though they suffer from black spot they keep flowering.

Best wishes Sylvia (England)

Oh Miss Sheila I saw these at the Expo and feel in love I am clearing a spot for a few for myself and going to give them for Mothers day presents.
I have had white and pink Carpet roses for years and love them.

Hugs, Cherry

Yes, I love these roses. I have the pink one, it blooms all summer. I love the color of your new one, I wish I had a spot for it.

I love carpet roses! That one is especially pretty. I love the colors. I think they even grow here in Idaho though I wonder what snow does to the stem structure?

I've been growing Flower Carpet roses in Vermont for close to 9 years and am constantly impressed with their ability to withstand harsh conditions, and even road salt during the winter months. Scarlet is one of my favorites - came out a few years ago. Last summer it bloomed from late June right up to our 3rd or 4th frost and even withstood a Japanese Beetle attack which bothered our other roses, but not Flower Carpet.
