Another Summer vs. Winter

This is a picture taken last summer of the steps on the east side of the garden in Laguna. The arches are covered with Sally Holmes and Graham Thomas roses with numerous perennials at their feet.

This is the same view last week. Bare, sparse and waiting for spring, like everyone else.

Beautiful roses. Graham Thomas is such an intense yellow. Is that a banana I can see behind.

I'm impatient for Spring!

Great seasonal contrast shots Sheila. You know I love the summer shot best (and can't wait for that season again) but the winter picture is beautiful in its own way. (I can't believe I just said that!) It surprises me there is such a difference ~ I was thinking you didn't experience too much of the seasons???

What a lovely arch - it must smell heavenly when in bloom. Spring will be here before we know it. :)

Kathleen, the change of season can be enhanced here by choosing plants that are sensitive enough to change with the temperate weather which is what I've done so my gardens do react to the change of seasons. Other landscapes may not change at all with the weather and many gardeners choose that opetion too.

I love seeing the pictures of winter versus spring. It is very interesting how things change so dramatically(-:
I enjoy the break Winter gives us here(-: It makes me more excited to get out and get things going as soon as Spring arrives. This year we had a week of Spring in January. It was so fun to be able to work in the yard and be warm! I was able to prune all the roses and trees and not freeze to death doing it! Now I can enjoy the rain!

Yes Rob, that is a stand of bananas at the top of the stairs. I believe it is 'Ice Cream'.
