A Determined Rose

Last summer we removed some roses that the previous owner had in this shady spot in SJC. They were hybrid teas that were not doing well due to a lack of sunlight. Over the spot we put in a DG (disintegrated granite) path. A couple weeks ago this little sprout came up and it is definitely a rose. That is one of the dog's tennis balls next to it. I guess I will carefully dig up this baby and find a new home for it, although I was not really crazy about the roses that were there. Someone will find a home for it, I'm sure.

Sheila, we can't resist these plants and must care for them! But roses are grafted so this is most likely from the root stock and really not worth keeping. Dig it up and throw it away and buy your self some roses you will like - do research them carefully though.

Best wishes Sylvia (England)

That rose is serious about hanging around huh?

I was shocked to see it coming up through the path like that. It does deserve to live. I had one do that and it thrived no matter where it landed--planted or not;)

I would keep it. I like plants and things with stories behind them. This one has a story of survival. But I understand other people: you can not be a gardener if you can't throw things away. So, it's up to you!
