This is about life in my gardens. One is an acre on a hillside in Laguna Beach, California and the other is an acre in San Juan Capistrano, California.

Not My Favorite, But...
I must admit I never would have picked out this color of azaleas if I were buying them at a nursery. They came with the house and were planted in all the wrong places. This was a grassy area that was shady and damp most of the time until we removed the grass and put in a flagstone walk. I needed plant material so I moved the azaleas over here and added tree ferns, ferns, Australian violets and a number of other shade plants. I am actually enjoying the bright, bold color this time of year and they are performing beautifully so I guess I can live with the cherry red.

ooh! i love that groundcover Viola! so nice and tolerant of different sun/shade conditions.
Sheila it looks beautiful there ! I have a weakness for ferns and that mix with the colours is great .. happy accident ? LOL
SUCH a pretty garden you have created there. It's the challenges that can lead to an imaginative solution like this, don't you think?
The red is pretty and even if you don't care for the color they only bloom for a short time and then they will be all green(-: I love azaleas and have several different colors that I enjoy as they bloom. I also enjoy just the leaves when they are not blooming(-:
sheila,
thank for your comment and faving of my blog. coming from you, that is very high praise! and the best thing is that now i have discovered your terrific blog! i'm sure to learn alot! i'm pretty jealous, as i've always wanted to garden in california. thanks again.
Very nice landscaping, the azaleas give a beautiful contrast to your garden. The landscape contractor for our builder did the same too; we had to move some plants to a different spot.
Enjoying your blog! ~Jacque
I think the azaleas are lovely and just needed a new home and neighbors to perk them up!
