Winter Color

If you look closely at this picture of the back yard in SJC you can see a spot of color back by the clump of palm trees. Other than that everything is a fairly consistent hue of green or brown
.

That touch of color is from 'Coral Delight' camellia that I planted last winter. It is a timely reminder that this is the last month that camellias like to be planted and I should get myself down to the nursery to pick out a few more for the gardens. They add much needed winter interest and are a nice shrub even when they are out of bloom all summer. I love to pick the blooms and float them in a shallow vase when there are few other options for bringing flowers indoors.

Sheila,
That is a sweet camellia! We have Kanjiro blooming right now. The blooms are smaller than normal and Saturday they were snow covered.

Wow, beautiful pictures...I am trying to learn more about growing flowers but so far I am mostly into growing vegetables. I look forward to checking out your blog!

Dear Sheila, I have discovered your site on the recommendation of Egmont who emailed me this morning to say he thought I should enjoy it.

I loved your picture of the SJC garden which appealed particularly as I favour green [and white] over too much in the way of vibrant colour.

I have added myself as one of your 'Followers' and will look forward to your future postings.

Thank you Edith! If you like green and white gardens you might check out my Moonlight Garden. Only green and white there! Thanks for the following!

Ooh, that is a beautiful camellia. It's not real ruffled but it's not a single. The color is great. I'm afraid my camellias froze a couple weeks ago. :-(

Beautiful Camellia! I had my heart set on violas the other day and just looked over the half price camellias. I decided I probably had enough -- nobody ever had enough, unless they ran out of room. Somebody posted pics from a botanical garden and I realized I could line the driveway, six feet over, lol.
