A Generous Plant

This is aeonuim arboreum 'Zwartkopt' that lives on the west side of my Laguna garden. It has been there for many years and has spawned most of my other 'Zwartkopts' that are spread throughout both gardens. It is ridiculously easy to root, just break off a rosette and stick it in the ground. It thrives on neglect and adds drama wherever it is planted. I love to mix it in with ornamental grasses for contrast. Definately one of my favorite plants!

Dear Sheila, I do agree that this is a wonderful plant and one which, in days gone by, I grew. Sadly, even in my Alpine House it succumbed, and died! It may be that I gave it too much attention; I note that you say yours thrives on neglect.

I love those carefree plants! I will have to see if it would do well in Austin.

What a neat plant, I'm not familiar with it. I can imagine it would look really nice with grasses. I'll have to keep a look out for this one.

What an interesting plant - I do like the green fading to deep burgundy colouring!

It is a pretty plant...is it a succulent? I like it's shape and color. It looks like it can grow fairly tall, too.

Jan, Yes it is a succulent and it gets "leggy" about two feet tall.

Hi Shelia. What is not to like about a plant that thrives on neglect. It would love it here then.LOL!
It is a new plant to me also and I am wondering if it is a succulent. I will have to check further on this plant.

It is amazing how aeonium grows for you...I had a huge one like this in a pot and I could not keep it alive! I tried everything...I was depressed (still am) for a year!!!
