Balloon Flower

I had almost forgot I had this charming little perennial until I spotted it at the back of one of my beds, misplaced for sure because it should be up front where it can be seen. It is called the Balloon Flower (Platycodon grandiflorus) or Chinese Bellflower because of the way the bloom resembles a puffed up balloon before it opens.

When my boys were small they would pop the unopened buds which meant no blooms. :(

I have been sowing this directly in the garden but so far no luck! Yours is beautiful!

I just found mine poking up the other day. I always forget about it because it's so much later than most of my plants.

Hello Sheila ! Mine aren't blooming yet .. but I always thought they were remarkable flowers to go through such a process !

I had one for years that struggled in a shady spot. It finally died out but it was a tough one. I should have moved it. I need to plant more in a sunnier location.
